FSSAI licence
Water used in food processing
Food businesses use an IS 10500 water report to show the water used in their premises is potable.
Drinking water testing
We test drinking and potable water for physical, chemical and microbiological parameters as per IS 10500, for FSSAI licences, factories, hotels, hospitals, schools, housing societies and homes.
Drinking water testing lab
Drinking water testing is the laboratory analysis of water for physical, chemical and microbiological parameters, compared with the limits in IS 10500, India's drinking water standard, to confirm it is safe to drink and use.
Accurate Universal Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. tests drinking, potable and process water for industries, commercial buildings, institutions, food businesses and households. Analysis follows IS 10500 and covers chemical and microbiological parameters, including MS2 phage, Cryptosporidium and Giardia. Radioactivity testing can be arranged through a partner laboratory.
Food businesses use our IS 10500 water test report for FSSAI licensing, and factories, hotels, hospitals and housing societies use it to check that their water is safe.

Importance of water testing
Water can look clear and still contain harmful bacteria, fluoride, nitrate or metals. Regular testing is the only way to know your water is safe to drink and to use in food.

Testing parameters
IS 10500 sets an acceptable limit and, for some parameters, a higher permissible limit used only when no alternative source exists. These are the most commonly tested parameters.
| Test | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| pH Analysis | Acidic or alkaline water corrodes pipes and affects taste |
| Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) | High TDS affects taste and indicates dissolved salts |
| Hardness Testing | Causes scaling in pipes, boilers and appliances |
| Fluoride Analysis | Excess fluoride causes dental and skeletal fluorosis |
| Nitrate & Sulphate Analysis | Nitrate signals sewage or fertiliser contamination |
| Conductivity Testing | Quick check of water quality and changes in source |
| Turbidity Testing | Cloudiness can shield bacteria from disinfection |
| Pesticide Residues | Agricultural run-off into groundwater |
| Taste and Odor | Off-tastes and odours signal contamination |
| MS2 Phage | Indicator of viruses that resist treatment |
| Cryptosporidium and Giardia | Parasites that resist chlorination |

Who needs it
The panel you need depends on why you are testing. These are the most common requirements.
Water used in food processing
Food businesses use an IS 10500 water report to show the water used in their premises is potable.
Drinking water for workers
Routine testing of drinking water supplied to employees in factories and offices.
Institutions and hospitality
Regular testing of water served to guests, patients and students.
Borewell, tanker and municipal water
Check borewell and tanker water, and whether your RO or filter is working.
RO plants and treatment units
Before-and-after testing to check treatment performance.
How it works
Tell us the water source and the purpose of testing. We recommend the panel and send a quotation.
Use clean bottles for chemical tests and a sterile bottle for microbiology, or book a sample pickup.
Physical, chemical and microbiological tests using standard methods.
Results for each parameter against IS 10500 limits.
We explain any out-of-limit results and the usual treatment options.
Industries we serve
Safe water matters wherever people drink it or it is used in food. These are the sectors we serve.

FAQs
IS 10500:2012 is the Indian Standard for drinking water published by the Bureau of Indian Standards. It sets acceptable limits, and for some parameters higher permissible limits, for physical, chemical, toxic, radiological and microbiological parameters.
Common parameters include pH, TDS, turbidity, hardness, fluoride, nitrate, sulphate, chloride, iron, heavy metals, pesticides, total coliforms and E. coli. A full IS 10500 analysis covers many more.
IS 10500 requires the pH of drinking water to be between 6.5 and 8.5.
Under IS 10500, the acceptable limit for TDS is 500 mg/L, with a permissible limit of 2000 mg/L where no alternative source is available.
Many food businesses must provide a report showing that water used in their premises meets IS 10500, especially where water is used as an ingredient or for processing. We can provide this report.
It depends on the source and use. Food businesses and institutions usually test periodically as part of their food safety or maintenance plan, and borewell water should also be tested after heavy rain or any change in taste or colour.
Use clean bottles for chemical tests and a sterile bottle for microbiological tests, let the tap run before filling, fill without touching the inside of the cap, and deliver the sample to the lab quickly and cool. We can also arrange pickup.
The cost depends on whether you need a short panel or a full IS 10500 analysis. Share your requirement and we will send an itemised quotation.
