What is natural mineral water testing?

Natural mineral water testing is the laboratory analysis of bottled water from a natural underground source against IS 13428, the Indian Standard that sets its mineral composition, chemical, toxic and microbiological requirements.

Natural mineral water must come from a protected underground source, keep a stable mineral composition and be bottled at source without changing its essential character. IS 13428 sets the limits it must meet, and BIS certification is mandatory before it can be sold.

Accurate Universal Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. tests natural mineral water to the 2024 version of IS 13428 for brands and bottling plants, for certification, renewals and batch quality control.

FAQs

Natural Mineral Water Testing: common questions

What is IS 13428?

IS 13428 is the Indian Standard for packaged natural mineral water, revised in 2024. It sets requirements for mineral composition, physical and chemical parameters, toxic substances, pesticides and microbiology.

What is the difference between natural mineral water and packaged drinking water?

Natural mineral water (IS 13428) comes from a natural underground source with a stable mineral composition and is bottled at source. Packaged drinking water (IS 14543) can come from any source and is treated before packing.

Is BIS certification mandatory for natural mineral water?

Yes. Packaged natural mineral water is under compulsory BIS certification in India and must carry the ISI mark under a valid licence.

Do you test mineral composition for the label?

Yes. We measure minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium, which brands use for their label and to show the water's composition is stable.

How much does IS 13428 testing cost?

The cost depends on whether you need the full standard or a routine panel. Share your requirement and we will send an itemised quotation.

Is Accurate Universal Laboratories accredited for this testing?

Yes. Our Ahmedabad laboratory is accredited by NABL to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (certificate TC-5021) and our Rajkot laboratory under certificate TC-7988. The tests and products covered are listed in our scope of accreditation, and we confirm whether your parameters are within scope before testing.
