Edible oil testing

Edible oil testing for quality, purity and FSSAI compliance

We test groundnut, mustard, sesame, cottonseed, castor, sunflower, soybean, coconut and palm oils for quality, rancidity, fatty acid profile and adulteration, against FSSAI standards and buyer specifications.

Oil testing lab

What is edible oil testing?

Edible oil testing is the laboratory analysis of cooking oils and fats for quality, freshness, fatty acid composition and adulterants, to show they are genuine and meet the FSSAI standard for that oil.

Gujarat is a major centre for groundnut, cottonseed, castor and sesame oil, and oils are often blended with cheaper oils or contain harmful adulterants such as argemone or mineral oil.

Accurate Universal Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. tests oils and fats using titration methods for quality and gas chromatography for fatty acid profiles, helping mills and brands prove purity and meet FSSAI standards.

Why oil testing matters

Prove purity and freshness

Blending with cheaper oils, harmful adulterants and rancidity are the main quality risks for edible oils. Testing proves your oil is what the label says.

Gas chromatograph used for fatty acid analysis

Purity checks

Fatty acid profile reveals blending with other oils.

Freshness

Acid and peroxide values show rancidity.

Harmful adulterants

Argemone oil and mineral oil checks.

FSSAI compliance

Results against the standard for each oil.

Used oil checks

Total polar compounds in frying oil.

Reliable reporting

Accredited reports for buyers and regulators.

How it works

From oil sample to report in five steps

  1. Step 1

    Share your requirement

Tell us the product, purpose and market. We recommend the right tests and send a quotation.

  2. Step 2

Send the sample or book pickup

Courier a sealed sample to our Ahmedabad or Rajkot laboratory, or book a sample pickup.

  3. Step 3

    Laboratory analysis

Quality parameters are tested by titration and the fatty acid profile by gas chromatography.

  4. Step 4

    Accredited report

Results compared with the FSSAI standard for that oil or your specification.

  5. Step 5

    Technical support

Our team explains the results and advises on next steps if a value is out of limit.

FAQs

Edible Oil Testing: common questions

Why is edible oil testing important?

It confirms the oil is genuine and fresh, detects blending with cheaper oils and harmful adulterants such as argemone or mineral oil, and shows the oil meets the FSSAI standard.

What parameters are tested in edible oil?

Common parameters are acid value, peroxide value, iodine value, saponification value, moisture and impurities, fatty acid profile and adulterant tests.

How is adulteration in oil detected?

Each oil has a characteristic fatty acid profile and chemical values. Comparing these with the FSSAI standard reveals blending, and specific tests detect argemone and mineral oil.

Can you test used frying oil?

Yes. Total polar compounds show how much a frying oil has degraded. FSSAI has set a limit for total polar compounds in used cooking oil.

How much does edible oil testing cost?

The cost depends on the oil and parameters. Share your requirement and we will send an itemised quotation.

Is Accurate Universal Laboratories accredited for this testing?

Yes. Our Ahmedabad laboratory is accredited by NABL to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (certificate TC-5021) and our Rajkot laboratory under certificate TC-7988. The tests and products covered are listed in our scope of accreditation, and we confirm whether your parameters are within scope before testing.
