What is dairy product testing?

Dairy product testing is the laboratory analysis of milk and milk products for composition, adulterants, contaminants and microbiology, to show they are genuine, safe and meet the FSSAI standard for their category.

Milk and milk products are among the most commonly adulterated foods in India. Ghee may be mixed with vegetable fat or animal fat, paneer with starch or vegetable oil, and milk with water, urea or detergent.

Accurate Universal Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. tests dairy products for purity, composition, contaminants such as aflatoxin M1 and microbiology, helping dairies and brands prove quality and meet FSSAI standards.

FAQs

Dairy Product Testing: common questions

What is ghee testing and why is it important?

Ghee testing checks purity and quality, using indicators such as RM value, BR reading and fatty acid profile, to detect vegetable or animal fat and confirm the ghee meets the FSSAI standard.

What are common adulterants in ghee?

Vegetable oils and vanaspati, animal body fats and starchy materials are the most common adulterants in ghee.

How is vegetable oil adulteration in ghee detected?

Laboratory tests such as BR reading, RM and Polenske values and fatty acid profile by gas chromatography reveal fats that do not come from milk.

How can I check if paneer is adulterated?

Home tests such as iodine for starch are only indicative. Laboratory testing measures fat, moisture and starch and checks the source of fat and microbiological quality.

Which dairy products can you test?

Milk, milk powder, ghee, butter, paneer, curd, cheese, khoa and ice cream.

How much does ghee or milk testing cost?

The cost depends on the product and parameters. Share your requirement and we will send an itemised quotation.

Is Accurate Universal Laboratories accredited for this testing?

Yes. Our Ahmedabad laboratory is accredited by NABL to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (certificate TC-5021) and our Rajkot laboratory under certificate TC-7988. The tests and products covered are listed in our scope of accreditation, and we confirm whether your parameters are within scope before testing.
