What is dry fruits and nuts testing?

Dry fruits and nuts testing is the laboratory analysis of nuts and dried fruits for mycotoxins, moisture, preservatives, pesticide residues and microbiology, to show they are safe and meet FSSAI and buyer requirements.

Nuts and dried fruits are prone to mould growth and aflatoxin, especially in warm, humid storage. Dried fruits may also contain sulphites used as preservatives, which must be declared and kept within limits.

Accurate Universal Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. tests nuts, dried fruits, makhana and nut butters for importers, packers and brands.

Why testing matters

Mould and toxins are the main risk

Aflatoxin and ochratoxin develop in nuts and dried fruits during drying and storage, and they survive roasting. Testing protects consumers and your brand.

FAQs

Dry Fruits & Nuts Testing: common questions

Which tests are needed for dry fruits and nuts?

Aflatoxins for nuts, ochratoxin A and sulphites for dried fruits, moisture, pesticide residues and microbiology are the most common tests.

Why is aflatoxin tested in almonds and pistachios?

Nuts can be contaminated by Aspergillus moulds that produce aflatoxin, which is toxic and heat-stable. Most markets set strict limits for aflatoxin in nuts.

Why are sulphites tested in dried fruits?

Sulphites are used to preserve colour in dried fruits. They must be within permitted limits and declared on the label because they can cause reactions in sensitive people.

How much does dry fruit testing cost?

The cost depends on the product and parameters. Share your requirement and we will send an itemised quotation.

Is Accurate Universal Laboratories accredited for this testing?

Yes. Our Ahmedabad laboratory is accredited by NABL to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (certificate TC-5021) and our Rajkot laboratory under certificate TC-7988. The tests and products covered are listed in our scope of accreditation, and we confirm whether your parameters are within scope before testing.
